Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release is a technique designed to release restrictions in the fascia, which is the dense connective tissue that surrounds your muscles. Any restrictions in the fascia will inhibit the glide and optimal functioning of that muscle and the related structures.

Your fascia is the connective tissue that covers every part of your body. Since every part of your body is surrounded with this connective tissue, if one area pulls tension on the fascia it will pull tension on all the other areas. The idea is seen like this; when you injure your knee and their is inflammation that puts tension on the connective tissue. If that inflammation stays for a while then the connective tissue hardens and stiffens. This hardened tense tissue pulls pressure on all the surrounding connective tissue. That means you will have tension being pulled up and down your leg whether you know it or not. The only way you would know this is if tension is being pulled hard enough to irritate the nerves. The problem is that often it is a slow progression of tension added over time. This eventually leads to pain in one of the joints above or below the knee because the connective tissue’s relationship with all the joints in the body. This means that usually after a knee injury that is not properly treated, you will see another joint in that leg or the compensating leg flare up with pain.

Myofascial Release is a nice way to get the fascia to release the hardened tension and restore proper function.
