What would you do if you knew the secret to controlling your weight?

Having the ideal body size is a thing that eludes many people in our world.  The fight to control unwanted weight is an ongoing battle that is tiring and seemingly never won.  Imagine knowing how to control your weight.  If you knew, would you use it or would you at least be glad you knew how to control your weight?

The Secret Control

Science has isolated the process of weight loss and weight gain and the secret is in the control of insulin.  Insulin is a hormone that is released from your pancreas.  It is released in response to increases in blood sugars.  The higher the spike or the faster the blood sugar levels increase the more insulin is released.  Insulin helps to control the levels of sugar floating in your blood to keep you in optimal health.

What makes insulin spike?

Insulin spikes when we are exposed to sugars.  It spikes higher when we are exposed to processed sugars or anything that breaks down into sugar rapidly.  An example of something that breaks down into sugars rapidly would be flour products like: breads, pastas, cereals.

How does Insulin make you Fat?

Insulin makes you fat when you have excessive insulin spikes over time.  Insulin does two things that make you fat.  First, it tells your cells to store the sugars as fat.  Second, it tells the fat cells not to release the fat for breakdown.

What does this look like?

Let’s say someone has been letting their insulin spike without counterbalances for quite a while.  They are eating lots of breads and pastas without properly timing exercise.  This sends a message for insulin to chronically be elevated which in turn causes fat cells to hold on to fat.  So what happens when they do exercise is that they preferentially burn proteins and glycogen instead of fat.  This is why so many people tell us, I exercise so hard and can’t lose weight.

How can I find out if this is a Problem?

In a good assessment and some blood sugar tests we can tell you if this is going on for you.  If we suspect your insulin is getting overly secreted, we will do a trial program that stabilizes insulin and you will notice your weight getting under your control.  Seeing your weight getting under control is another way of diagnosing that this was a problem for you.

What can I do to control Insulin?

The top three keys to controlling Insulin are exercise, diet, and stress management.  Exercise to control insulin does not have to be marathon runs or even hours at the gym, these activities sometimes drop your blood sugars too low and lead to craving sugars that cause rebound spikes after large carbohydrate meals.  Walks after meals and moderate exercise can help with insulin just fine.  The diet component is all about controlling rapid blood sugar spikes.  This can happen through carbohydrate/sugar minimization, proper food combining, and focusing on replacing carbohydrates with high quality fats.  The high quality fat replacement sounds counterintuitive but it actually control insulin very well and trains your body to preferentially burn fat as the main energy source instead of storing fat.  Stress causes the release of “the stress hormone”, cortisol, which causes you to dump sugar into the blood stream.  This mechanism usually goes awry in someone with poor insulin regulation because this stress response can cause insulin to spike when blood sugars rise and lead to weight gain.

Are there things I can take to help with weight loss or weight control?

Yes!  There are many things to help with weight loss.  I will list a few but the list of things that can help is too long for me to do justice to it.  If you are truly interested in weight loss it would be good to sit down and see where you are at and decide what products would best suit your  situation and goals.

Garcinia Cambogia

  • Acts as a fat blocker – meaning fat cells will not be permitted to form.
  • Acts as an appetite suppressant – helping to control your cravings.
  • Zeros in on metabolizing belly fat – helping to eliminate it.
  • Helps emotional eaters – because the supplement has been shown to cause an increase in serotonin levels. This helps balance out mood swings and alleviates the symptoms of stress and depression.
  • Helps manage the levels of Cortisol in your body – a hormone that is directly tied to stress levels.

Guarana Seed Extract

According to the Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database, or NMCD, guarana is used as:

  • a stimulant
  • weight-loss aid and performance enhancer
  • prevention or treatment of dysentery, malaria, hypotension, heart problems, chronic fatigue syndrome and urinary flow problems
  • fever; diarrhea; and head, neck and joint pain
  • an aphrodisiac

Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA)  Is an essential fatty acid (EFAs)

  • Decreases abdominal fat – adrenal imbalances and hormonal shifts that are common in thyroid patients frequently cause rapid accumulation of abdominal fat, so this product can be quite helpful.
  • Increases metabolic rate – it increases the metabolic rate in some people which helps to burn calories faster.
  • Enhances muscle growth – muscle burns fat by utilizing more calories which is useful in weight loss.
  • Lowers insulin resistance – insulin resistance leads to Diabetes. Lowering insulin resistance can help preventing adult-onset diabetes. Low insulin resistance means that muscles can use up calories faster so it makes it easier to lose weight.
  • Reduces food-induced allergic reactions – CLA can be very helpful in this aspect
  • Enhances the immune system – enhancing the immune system’s ability to function properly is a positive benefit which can be obtained by using CLA

Rhodiola

  • Amps up your energy – increases the oxygen-carrying capacity of our red blood cells, making it particularly effective at increasing energy, vitality and stamina during times of stress
  • Reduces the amount of stress your body (and mind) experience:
  • Has a calming effect on our body and mental state because of an ability to reduce overly high cortisol levels, one of our major stress hormones.
  • In turn this improves memory and focus, energy levels, immune system, and causes a significantly better insulin response.
  • Also helps with binge eating (which often happens because of excess Cortisol)!
  • Helps you burn belly fat (oh yes… we all love that one!) – reduces belly fat, by increasing production of an enzyme called ‘hormone-sensitive lipase’, a substance which allows your body to access and utilize the fat stored in abdominal cells.
  • Makes you smart. Like really, really smart.
  • Increases the sensitivity of your neurons (them thinkin’ cells in your brain) to the presence of dopamine and serotonin, two neurotransmitters involved in focus, memory, pleasure, mood and a whole bunch of other nice feelings.
  • Used as an extremely effective alternative to antidepressants.

Raspberry ketone

  • Is the primary aroma compound of red raspberries.
  • Regulates adiponectin – a protein used by the body to regulate metabolism.
  • Causes the fat within your cells to get broken up more effectively, helping your body burn fat faster.
  • The recommended dose is 100mg per day.  To get the same benefit from the whole fruit, you’d have to consume 90 pounds of raspberries.
