My patient told me to look up golden milk because it had helped her with her eczema. Golden milk is a nice beverage in which to enjoy the widely researched spice, turmeric, for its significant health benefits.
I have used turmeric in patients as an anti-inflammatory after surgeries or for joint pain, and have also used it to aid the liver enhance its detoxification function. The scientific literature has shown that turmeric has many benefits, including:
Anti-inflammatory
Anti-oxidant
Hepatoprotective
Antimicrobial against gram positive bacteria
Cancer prevention
Cardiovascular protection
This drink may be helpful in those with inflammatory bowel disease, high cholesterol, pain and inflammation, and as a general health drink for cancer prevention and liver detoxification.
After looking at several recipes the one we came up with involves making a paste and then combining that with warm almond milk and honey.
Golden Milk:
½ cup turmeric
½ tsp black pepper, ground
1 ½ tsp cinnamon
½ tsp ginger
Add a bit of water, enough to make a paste, and stir over low heat until it combines. This paste can then be stored and used to make several drinks. To make 2 servings of milk, warm 2 cups of almond milk and add 4 teaspoons of the paste, 2 tsp melted butter or ghee, and 1 ½ tsp of honey. Enjoy!
